Carpentry & joinery

Timber work runs through almost every job we do. Our own team handles the structural carpentry, roof timbers and joinery on our extensions, new builds and renovations, and we also take on carpentry work in its own right across Truro, Falmouth and the rest of Cornwall. On the structural side that means roof structures, floor joists and stud partitions, plus the lintels, trimmers and noggins that hold a building together before it is plastered. When a wall is opened up or a new doorway formed, we make sure the support above it is right before anything is boxed in or finished. Second fix is where the joinery shows: internal doors and frames, skirting and architrave, window boards and neat boxing in around pipes. We also fit external doors and the larger openings people want now, such as sliding and bifold doors. Large bifold doors were part of Andrew Mewton's open-plan renovation, and Beth and Andrew Walton are having us back to fit sliding doors after we took down their old garage and laid their drive. Outbuildings bring all of this together. Oliver Poole had a bespoke garage and office built by us and singled out the craftsmanship and attention to detail, and Rupert Collier's dilapidated garage was replaced with an L-shaped garage, gym, office and garden room built from scratch. On older Cornish homes, rotten or undersized timbers are often found once floors and ceilings come up. We show you what we have found, explain the options and agree the repair before carrying on. The price depends on how much of the timber is structural, how many doors or openings are involved, and whether the work is part of a larger build or a job on its own.
